Hey! I’m a freelancer copywriter, proofreader and marketing communications manager in Huddersfield
I’m a mum of two, wife of one and owner of a daft dog. I work from home in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. I graduated in 1996 – that should be enough to reveal how old I am.
When I’m not throwing shapes in lycra at the gym or trying to parkrun, I like reading or watching TV comedy. Catching up with friends and family on girls’ weekends are regular pastimes too. As a family of four, we holiday in Spain most years, visiting my parents who live there. Although, I love a British holiday too: Lytham St Annes, The Lake District, Northumberland, Loch Lomond and Cornwall are my favourites.
I studied design at Nottingham Trent University before joining Wella GB for two years on the marketing Partnership Services team: I helped hair salons design and run marketing campaigns for their salon services and to increase retail product turnover. I’ll never forget learning to wind a perm (!) and colour hair as part of the product training; such a crazy-fun company to work for. Whilst at Wella, I began studying for my post-graduate diploma with the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
After side-stepping into finance and spending two years with Barclays Mercantile, I moved into hospitality – an industry that stuck. First with national group Paramount Hotels and then with QHotels, I progressed to director of marketing in both firms with 26 hotels in each to look after.
Freelancing came along in 2010, shortly after my second child. My hospitality knowledge and experience proved useful to a Leeds digital marketing agency and the notion to freelance became an exciting itch to scratch.
Since then, I’ve retained many of the clients I acquired in the early years and I’ve branched out to work with many different industries. I now work both with agencies that need fast freelance projects completing, and direct with clients on an ongoing or ad hoc basis. My specialist subjects are copywriting and proofreading alongside marketing communications, market research and planning. I’m often called upon to help agencies package new business proposals, and I’m especially in need when there’s a short lead time.
I’ve never had to let a client down, nor missed a deadline. I like to think my clients can count on me.
